Hamas Boasts of Turning Israeli Spies - Jerusalem Prayer Team News
Hamas says it is successfully turning Israeli spies and “persuading them to repent.” As part of a Gaza-wide campaign, the terror group says over the past two weeks the number of Gaza residents who “repented and returned to the embrace of their people” has been at its highest since the beginning of the campaign. The group also claims it has seen more “repenting spies” over the past three months of 2013 than it did during all of 2010.
Ibrahim Salah, a spokesman for Hamas’s Interior Ministry, made the announcement on his Facebook page, writing “We assert that all those who repented and returned to the embrace of their people were not and will not be arrested. All their statements were collected far from the security headquarters, remaining secret. Now, they live a normal life after ridding themselves from the filth of treachery and collaboration.” He says the Hamas clemency offer will only last until April 11, after which offenders will face “the shame and punishment which they deserve.”
Since taking over the Gaza Strip in June 2007, Hamas has been actively cracking down on Israeli agents and those who help them. Last November, after Israel’s successful operation Pillar of Defense, Hamas operatives executed six suspected collaborators after charging them with filming Hamas positions on behalf of Israel.
According to Arab media reports, Israel is actively trying to recruit new agents to counter the Hamas efforts. The London-based daily A-Sharq Al-Awsat reported that Israel has recently increased its efforts to recruit young Palestinian men through social networks, especially Facebook. In January, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh denied allegations that Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, had successfully recruited one of his office staff members.
Replete with spies, double-agents and moles, the espionage game is played by every nation in the world in an attempt to learn the other’s secrets. It’s an old game; in ancient Israel both King David and Joshua sent spies into foreign lands to scout out the enemy (Joshua 6). In modern times, Israel’s Mossad, America’s CIA, Britain’s MI-6, and the old Russian KGB are perhaps the most well known spy agencies and frequently appear in spy thriller novels, movies and television shows. Pray for Mossad’s efforts as they work to keep Israel safe from foreign enemies and those that would harm the Jewish people.
