Hong Kong Protests
Crowds watch live broadcasts of talks between student leaders and government officials, Tuesday October 21
We're now into weeks five of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests and a new period of uncertainty. After a spike in violence, student leaders and government officials met for the first talks last Tuesday but made little headway. The government wants further talks but the students and protesters are less keen given there has been little concrete offered by the city authorities on the core demands of full democracy for the southern Chinese city and chief executive CY Leung's resignation.
There was supposed to be a vote held Sunday evening by protest leaders to decide on the movement's next move but it was called off. What happens next is anyone's guess.
