Static Shock

Within the museum is a section of the floor designated as a Static Electricity Learning Center. In the Center, people of all ages can explore the use and generation of static electricity through machines, as well as rubbing balloons on a “furry” wall. Austin Wasmund, 13, of Maple Valley visited the museum Wednesday, Nov. 25. While there, he experimented with a Wimshurst Generator, an 1880s electrostatic device used for creating high voltages. “We just learned about static electricity in school,” Wasmund said. “It’s really cool and interesting.”
