I think the Christmas tree is a perfect candidate for making something look "old-fashioned". This holiday tends to conjure memories going back all the way to one's childhood, and depending on how far back that is, grayscale and a few distorting filters can make this tree look like it belongs in a box of photos capturing those memories. Some of the classic Christmas stories from growing up (It's A Wonderful Life) were also told through black and white.
