Projection

Meanwhile, while people wait outside, the all important test run of today's feature IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is taking place. Before the show, the projectionist, Pete, assembles and test runs the film to make sure there are no issues with it. You wouldn't want a splice failing or something else happening during the show, so those issues are checked for in advance.

Normally both projectors are not running at the same time. Each reel can hold approximately 55 minutes of 35mm film. To save time, both are run and they switch from one to the other every few minutes to see if the film is still OK on screen.

The projectors are a pair of Century SA's, with 2000 watt Xenon lamps. Red LED readers are used for optical (stereo/mono) sound pickup, and DTS readers are just below the feed reels for digital sound.
