Google Street View

So here I was, out in rural Western NJ searching out an abandoned rail line, on a very local road when a Google Street View car comes driving by! What are the chances of that?

I was just climbing out of a slight depression that the tracks ran in, and when I reached the road I see this coming. I threw up my hands in surprise and waved and he stopped for this picture, then he pulled over to the side of the road and we had a nice chat for a few minutes. Very interesting to finally see one of these for real. It's quite a setup. The rig on the top of the car has 16 cameras in a 360 degree view, plus GPS antenna, and other sensors. Two heavy cables go through the rear passenger window to a computer and other boxes mounted on the passenger floor. There is a 19" monitor in the passenger seat running a form of Google Maps.

This location has been Street Viewed before and he told me the drive through was an update, and that I had been photographed and recorded. He did not know how long it would take for the new data to go live, or if I would be fuzzed out.

Here is the previous Street View of this exact location. I was coming out of the woods on the other side of the road when he was approaching. Good timing!
