Garners KW Wrecker

For Blackhandgreasysuzie who loves big trucks and cranes.

The 2012 Midwest Regional Tow Show sponsored by TRAO (Towing and Recovery Association of Ohio) in Mason, Ohio.

This twin steer rig owned by Garners of Fortville, Indiana (near Indianapolis), has to be the king of the beasts at the show and there were many beasts. The driver told me that it cost around $600,000.00 before the paint job and other niceties. Indiana limits him to charging $450.00 per hour on jobs. You do the math to see how long it will take to recover the original cost, keeping in mind that he gets around four miles per gallon of diesel fuel.

I told him that it looked so clean that it appeared that it had never been used. Even the hooks were brightly painted and spotless. He said that it is used weekly to right overturned semi's and that they repaint things like the hooks on a regular basis.

The trucks entered in the beauty contest were probably every bit as polished as any car I've seen at concours d'elegance shows. One guy told me it took him something like six hours to polish his bumper and fuel tank alone. Amazing.
