Mr. Blue 2012
2012 Appalachian Festival held at Coney Island in Cincinnati, Ohio. While I didn't realize it at the time, in 2010, I took and posted a picture of this gentleman which can be see in this set for comparison purposes. This year, I had a long and very nice conversation with him. He is a retired school teacher who was making kid's banjos out of slices of small logs with necks attached. While they looked good, I couldn't hear much sound when he strummed them.
He also had a very old side saddle that had belonged to his mother and grandmother before her. He put the saddle on a very rudimentary wooden horse he had built and invited parents to take pictures of their kids on it. From the grins on the children, I'd say they were getting a kick out of it.
Both the banjos and the wooden horse seemed to be authentic replicas of toys you'd expect to find in historic Appalachia.
