De Moll Farm's White GMC

Clare Welcome Center 634 at mile marker 160 on US 127 near Clare, Michigan. I like this truck because of the history it represents. The long standing White brand was acquired by Volvo in 1981 which continued to produce trucks under the White brand. In 1987, Volvo purchased GMC's heavy truck business, merged it with White and created the White-GMC brand. The White-GMC nameplate was discontinued in 1995. I guess because they weren't particularly interesting or unique looking, until recently, I never knew about or noticed trucks with the White-GMC name. I'm paying more attention now and found this one interesting because, not only does it have the White-GMC plate, it also has the distinctive Volvo diagonal across the grill.

I told the driver that I thought it was a rather rare bird. He didn't seem overly impressed with the truck itself, but mentioned that driving it was just a job and he was glad to have Cummins power under him. In some ways, he was more interesting than the truck and I would have tried to get some shots of him, but nature's call was too strong for me to take the time and he was close to leaving.
