A place to linger

From my tent site I walked along a dirt road that wound through a grove of narrowleaf cottonwoods beside the Middle Fork of the Cimarron River. I rounded a bend, saw this view, and thought to myself "I want to linger here a while." Clear air, low angle light, backlit cottonwoods and bright foliage conspired to produce a special moment.

The bright colors are willows (shrubs), narrowleaf cottonwoods and quaking aspen. The tall conifers in the foreground are Engelmann spruces.
