wildflowers ungrazed

This fenced pasture is on Columbine Pass on the Uncompahgre Plateau in western Colorado. Dandelions provide the color, but this species is one of the two native species of Taraxacum in Colorado, not the European invader entrenched in my lawn.

Quaking aspen are the lighter colored, deciduous treen in the background, while the dark conifers further back include Douglas fir, lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce and white fir.
