Great Northern Railway EMD F7A "Ore Wagons" at Superior, Wisconsin on August 1, 1965

If you're a fan of the old Great Northern like I am then this one should put a smile on your face. It's mid-1965 and the Big Sky Blue image hadn't been conceived of yet. GN changed their standard paint job to this simplified version of Pullman Green and Omaha Orange. The road name was spelled out in Dulux Gold (a "Grey Poupon" mustard yellow color) while the road number under the cab was jet black (NOT green). The simplified green and orange was a cost-savings measure as the original scheme with all of those dulux gold pin stripes was expensive to maintain and tough to keep looking fresh. This simpler paint scheme was still attractive, and if you ask me, it really allowed the actual construction lines and details of the locomotive to stand out more.
