Lake Superior Terminal & Transfer Railway Locomotive 101 and Caboose 17

The Lake Superior Terminal & Transfer Railway—or Terminal, for short—operated exclusively within Superior, Wisconsin with their main headquarters located in Superior Union Depot. Its colorful locomotives featured a Great Northern Railway inspired paint scheme and their bright red cabooses couldn’t be missed. The Terminal’s role was to service harbor front properties, including the Incan Superior railroad car ferry dock, and to deliver railroad cars to and from its owning railroads throughout Superior. That included GN and NP (later combined to become BN), C&NW and the Soo Line. Since the Terminal handled cars to all of the major railroads in Superior the traffic base that it handles could go in any direction out of Superior, including straight north to the Canadian Pacific in Thunder Bay via the Incan Superior, at least between 1974 and 1992 when that operation was functioning.
