BN 953 working coal MTYs at West Duluth, Minnesota in 1970

Just another day switching coal cars at the power plant in West Duluth. NP (and BN in the early days) powered this job with Alco RS-1s, S2s, S4s, and their lone S6. When the Alcos were retired the regular power became NW2s that came originally from CB&Q and NP, and later still new SW1000s. This picture was taken in September. For now at least the Alcos switchers are still around but the RS3 and RS11 road units once assigned to Duluth are already on their way to Vancouver, Washington where they will stay for good.
