NP Budd RDC at Duluth Union Depot in 1962

The Northern Pacific Railway placed two slightly different Budd rail diesel cars into service in 1955. An RDC-2 that accommodated 70 passengers began operation on March 1, 1955 between Spokane, Washington and Lewiston, Idaho. An RDC-3 with room for 48-passengers (and a mail-baggage section too) began operating mid-month that same year between Duluth and Staples, Minnesota—shown here at Duluth Union Depot in September 1962. Yellow and brown express refrigerator car WFEX 67116 parked on the team track brought in western fruit destined for Duluth grocery wholesalers.
