Pirate Treasure Cave

This is what you see when you peek into a hole in one of the caves on Tom Saywer's Island at Disneyland. The head is not always there: first a skeleton hand lowers from the ceiling holding an eyeball that looks at you, then it retreats to be followed by this skull that pops up from the floor and yells at you about curses and treasure and other Piratey things.

Tom Sawyer's Island got a major pirate overhaul a few years back because kids know about Pirates of the Carribean and Johnny Depp but they don't know about Tom Sawyer and Mark Twain. In all honesty, the pirate additions and themeing do help make Tom Sawyer's Island a bit more interesting as the place is basically a big rock playground otherwise. Don't get me wrong: a huge rock playground with caves and bridges has Its merits, especially if you've yet to hit puberty, but I've always felt that something more could be done with that increasingly precious Disneyland real estate. I'm always astounded to realize how much space both Tom Sawyer's Island and the Rivers of America eat up considering the island playground and Mark Twain/Columbia ships aren't exactly flagship attractions.

I think Disney is screwed because the island land would only be truly useable for a major attraction if there was some sort of bridge, but that would mean getting rid of the two large boats, which would then negate a vast majority of the river that isn't really seen otherwise (train aside). If only there was some sort of underground tunnel...

(Technical Aside: this was taken at ISO 2800 and there's barely any noise... I love the D700.)
