Juvenile Spiny Flower Mantis studies the mealworm one final time before grabbing at it a third time (shot 4/14/2019) (0837)

This is probably my favorite clip from the album “World’s dumbest mealworm series” (Scene 9). The mantis appears to be measuring the size of the prey from 9 to 18 seconds into the clip and then, after the 18 second point, focuses all of his attention on the mealworm’s head. It’s amazing that there is so much going on in the tiny head of this predator (His entire length is under half an inch).
