London Nov 2013 132V2 View from The Shard

We had our annual trip to London - a fundraising coach trip in aid of Slaithwaite Band - a weekend stay in the Cumberland at Marble Arch. The weather was variable, lovely but cold on Saturday until later on, the cloud came in and spoiled the sunset - and the view from the Shard. We did our usual non stop walking thing, there wasn't a great deal that made me want to take lots of photographs. We were going to book the Shard - we usually do a show but decided that it would be nice not to have a pre-planned agenda for a change and didn't book it. We arrived there almost by accident and as it was freezing cold and we discovered we could get one of the last 3.30 slots that we would go up it. It is very well organised and we were soon up there. Unfortunately there are three layers of glass - and reflections! on the upper floor were you are effectively outside there is still one layer of very thick glass so photography wasn't easy. We watched the sun go down and the lights switch on, it was still quite impressive but it did get crowded. you will see some faint reflections on a couple of photos.

I took some night shots on the Thames Embankment using my Iphone as a tripod, trying to keep the camera a little bit higher than whatever I used as a support. There was thick cloud cover by now and the orange street lights were reflecting on the low clouds and giving everything an orange glow. The tower Bridge photos are printing very well considering no tripod and only using the Canon G1X.

The Sunday was extremely dull with some drizzle so I didn't take many photos despite walking 11 miles by 1.00 pm. The ones I did take were a bit flat and dull but a couple are OK.
