Acid in digestion
Gulls have an extremely acidic digestive system. When they try to swallow food items larger than their gullet such as this sea star, they wait for the parts that have entered the digestive system to dissolve enough to get another bit down and continue the process until it is all down. It doesn't really take that long. Prince Rupert, BC, Oct 27, 2010.
