Explosive Jazz-Funk in memory of Travis âTrumpet Blackâ Hill

He was supposed to be one of the stars of this yearâs edition of JazzAscona. But destiny had other plans. A rising New Orleans trumpeter, Travis âTrumpet Blackâ Hill, passed away on Monday May 4th while touring Japan, at only 28, following an infection that set in after a minor dental procedure. Travis belonged to a dinasty of New Orleans musicians. Grandson of the R&B great Jessie Hill, he was brought up in music with his cousins James, Glen David and Troy âTrombone Shortyâ Andrews. After having spent nine years in jail for an armed robbery, he had returned on stage three years ago with an enthusiasm and talent that had quickly relaunched his career and life. He was working on various projects and was ready to take the world by storm. He was the founder of the nonprofit Trumpets Not Guns that works with at-risk kids in New Orleans. Ascona was waiting for him and his new group, The Heart Attacks, which has won the Big Easy audience over with its explosive and irresistible mix of Jazz, Funk and R&B.

The band, which has decided to honor its commitment and will be at JazzAscona despite the loss of their leader, has become very popular in New Orleans in a very short time. Their explosive and irresistible mix of jazz, funk, and R&B is the expression of the most authentic music culture of The Big Easy and of Treme, in particular. It is made up of trumpeter James Andrews and of two experienced musicians, drummer Raymond Weber and bassist Chris Severin.
