A moment with Mo

Here is a story I must tell.

When I was 7yrs old my dad got me a dog. Pretty big it was too!

He'd seen it at a rescue centre.

The dog couldn't bark. I think that's why he got me that one as he thought he'd have a quiet dog!

The dog belonged to an elderly couple who had their home broken into.

The dog had been drugged so it couldn't bark and wake them up.

The couple couldn't felt they couldn't live at that house any more so they moved but couldn't take the dog.

My dad brought this dog to me and it was so big I was very nervous.

After 2 days it's bark came back!! Ha ha I'll never forget my dads face!!!!

We'd had him a week and I was in the kitchen with my mum and the dog.

My mum was brushing my hair when the dog began to growl.

It was obviously jelous as it had never been around children before.

The next thing I knew was I was pinned up against the kitchen wall with the dogs jaws around my throat!!

I'll never forget it!

My mum tried her best to get the dog's jaws from my throat as she screamed!!!

I was ok but very shaken up for a few days.

My dad had to take the dog back to the kennels.

For my 8th birthday My dad then bought me a black & white kitten. the cutest thing.

I called it Tigger and there my love and obsession for cats began.

For the people who know me and know how much I love animals of all kinds,

I'm ashamed to say that from that experience as a child, I am absolutely PETRIFIED of big dogs.

It's always their teeth and eye contact.

If I am out with Greg and I see a dog with it's owner, I hold on to Greg for dear life!

If I am on my own then I cross the road to get away.

If I see any dog out on its own I will turn around and get home as quickly as possible!!

Some of my friends have dogs and I'm not too bad once the dog gets to know me.

Little toy dogs I'm not too bad either but I still avoid the getting near their mouths.

So you'll wonder what's going on in the photos after all that?

My lovely neighbours Carol & kevin Foster for the "Boxer Dog Rescue"

It's run by 2 lovely ladies who like to find foster parents for the dogs until they can be rehomed.

Carol & kevin have their own boxer called Fizz who I know quite well.

They invited me over to meet their new foster dog called Mo as they thought I'd be ok with him.

I'm very nervous seeing a dog for the first time. I think more of their reaction to me than the other way round.

I also know dogs pick up on my fear which bothers me also.

When I met Mo I nearly fainted!

Bigger than what I thought he would be with a mighty sized mouth!!

My hands were sweating so I thought I'd have a quick chat and then leave politely.

Kevin began to tell me Mo's story.

Most of the rescues are from another pound in England who also rescue dogs, but If they do not find a home for them in 3 weeks they are put to sleep!!!!

I couldn't believe my ears!!!!!

What?!!!!

As they are not kept for very long there, the hygiene and heating is not up to scratch.

Mo was taken from his owners ( I don't know why )

and placed in the pound and was rescued from there just in time!

They have taken Mo to the vet for neutering because at the pound they didn't clean much and Mo was sat in his own urine for days (and in this weather with no heating) and the acid from his urine had burnt his testicles!

As Kevin told me all this I could have wept very easily.

Maybe it was the way I was feeling but as my heart was going out to Mo, he jumped up beside me on the sofa and rested his chin on my shoulder.

I felt he'd come to comfort me and I felt no fear!

he then laid his front paws on my lap.

I really felt the love coming from Mo and it was magical.

Mo is such a softy.

For somebody who is so scared of dogs, especially the large variety, I found myself asking kevin if I could take Fizz & Mo out to play in the snow!

I've never played with a dog before and I found myself laughing for half an hour none stop.

I had to call Greg to bring my camera for some photos.

kevin made me one of his special frothy coffees that I sipped with Mo at my feet when we came in from the cold.

I find myself constantly thinking about this dog.

So soft and affectionate.

Has Mo got me over my fear of dogs?

Mmmmm I don't know but I'm certainly taken with him

With Mo its the closest I've ever been to a dog

Fizz is such a darling surrogate mum too.

She copes very well as Mo is foster dog No 13.

She'd rather have a male than a female though.

So there it is. Mo helping me with my fear and at the same time we are helping each other.

I'm finding I can't stop thinking about him and would love him myself but I can't with my 2 cats and with our work we just haven't the time for dog walking every day.

Mo finishes his jabs next week and will be ready for a new home if anybody would like him?

I will shed some tears when he goes and so will Carol and Kevin.

Such a hard job they do but they are very dedicated and find it satisfying.

I do hope he finds a lovely permanent home soon.

If anybody would like him

please contact

and don't forget to ask for "Mo"

Kevin has asked if I'd like to take him out for a stroll tomorrow!!

I've said yes!!

That will be another 1st!!

I have asked Greg to come with me though for a bit of support.

Thanks for visiting me today and reading my story of

Mo & Me
