I am a girl that’s sad

I wonder if people understand me.

I hear people talking about me

I hear my people dying.

 

I want a better life

I am a girl that’s sad

 

I pretend to be happy

I feel like someone is out to kill me

I touch the skies of heaven

I worry about my life

I am a girl that’s sad

 

I understand why my mom left me

I say I’ll meet my mom

I dream about meeting my mom

I try to act like someone I’m not

I hope I can meet my mom

I am a girl that’s sad.

[I met this child during my visit to Shillong Peak, just outside the city of Shillong, in Meghalaya, India. She was among many other children there; but, there was something hauting about her expression. Typically, these children will give you a shy smile if you try to photograph them. This girl didn't seem to care. I was impressed and moved by that. Hence, the title of this photo.]
