Before and After: 1918 Estate Sale House
Before February 2016, after September 2016.
Here are some before and after comparison photos of the 1918 estate sale house.
Obviously flippers bought this house and it is back on the market with their cheap, ugly renovation. I am furious. I am grateful it is not torn down however, but these people who did this to this historic house should have rotten tomatoes thrown at them.
Let me begin my list of complaints starting on the exterior:
1. The original TWO Craftsman tapered columns on the front porch were replaced by THREE crappy plain square posts with generic angled brackets at the top. The third post just clutters up the porch! It shouldn't be there! That middle pedestal is for a potted plant! Not another column.
2.Craftsman homes have exposed rafter tails. Don,t cover them up with a fascia board.
3. Every single window did have its original wood framed screen. Now every window has no screen so bugs can fly in when opened.
4.They had the original low backyard fence grid pattern. They chose not to replicate the original design, but take a shortcut and use that crappy picket fence pattern that is EVERYWHERE. (I will give them a little bit of praise for the addition of the pergola. Its kind of cute, kind of...)
5.On to the interior, the white paint doesnt really bother me, it did need paint, but the ugly ceiling fan in the dining room, really? They covered up the original hardwood floors with that awful fake wood floor that looks SO CHEAP! They just didnt want to do the work to refinish those amazing floors. Pitty.
6. And now the kitchen. Again, they had the original Craftsman bead board SOLID WOOD cabinets. They chose to rip them out (luckily a local resident let me know he salvaged what he could out of their trash pile, THANK YOU!) They put in that overdone gray granite countertop, probably actually just fake granite going by their cheap trend throughout the rest of the house. This new kitchen does not go with this house! OH MY GOD! Its all wrong.
So that is my vent. Got it all out now. I REALLY hope the people who did this awful remodel job to this once grand house sees my rant and hopefully becomes educated about historic styles...
Here is the address if you are curious to see the real estate listing:
