Estate Sale at the 1918 Abandoned House

Modesto, CA

I have always been fascinated by this house ever since I was a kid. In February of 2016 this home was put on the market, sold quickly and an estate sale was held. Before the actual sale, there was a huge "garbage" pile out on the street. Everyday before I would go to work I would rummage through the mound and pull out treasures. I was pulling out 1940s and 50s dresses, fabric, magazines and other vintage paper. I was so excited to be able to go inside this time capsule of a house and buy some really amazing stuff. The sale did not disappoint!

*September 2016 UPDATE*

Well the buyers that bought this house at the time of this estate sale made it livable, but thats all they did. It is back on the market along with some STUPID "updates" like a new kitchen (they replaced the ORIGINAL 1918 bead board SOLID WOOD cabinets with crappy, cheap looking cabinets that dont match the house at all. Oh and of course overdone gray granite counter tops, barf. C'mon guys, this is a Craftsman styled house that should have a Craftsman kitchen.) To continue with the crappiness they changed the original TWO Craftsman styled slanted front porch columns with THREE ugly, mundane pieces of wood with brackets. Luckily I documented the great original features of this house so someone can do it right. Oh and thanks to a local resident, he salvaged some parts of the kitchen cabinets for his historic home, way to go! Photos of the ugly soon to come.
