Final animation + Evaluation
Final Evaluation
This is the final animation that I have produced for The Advanced Character Animation module. I think that the character I created was a good choice for an animation project. Even though this was an animation project, there has to be a lot of thought put into the model itself, because the shape and sizes of the model all contribute to the way that the animation will run. I think my model was simple yet effective. The character was easy to rig, and easy to model, but still looked good and gave a nice final result. I modelled the character in a traditional T-Pose and this was another reason why I found it easy to add the animation onto it.
I managed to show some expression with the use of the characters various attributes. For instance I used the arms to show fear when it was hiding from the cue, and I used the mouth and eyes to show shock as well. The arms were also used to show a follow through motion when he was smashed away from the cue. This gave the viewer a real sense of how fast the ball was travelling.
I think that the animation was nice and snappy, at first I was really going for this, but the video was extremely fast, in the end I had to almost double the amount of frames in the animation because I realised that it was too fast to bring out all of the emotions that I wanted to show. This is a good example of when time has to be used to the correct amount to make animation work to its full potential.
Another nice touch that was in this was when the white ball hit the edge of the pocket. I really like the way I managed to get it to snap back and forth quickly to show how quickly the ball had been trapped to a halt. I do think that I exaggerated slightly at this part of the scene, and this helped to add to the effect.
The most stand out piece of exaggeration in this animation was by far the ending when the shock was portrayed by the eyeballs shooting out. I think that this was a great use of exaggeration. It also showed nice follow through when the eyeballs were left behind as the ball shot into the pocket. I also exaggerated in a cartoon style when I left the ball floating for a few seconds once it hit the pocket.
At the start when the ball is waiting to be hit by the cue, I tried to incorporate anticipation my making the cue line up the shot and pull back a bit further when it was ready to take the shot. I think this worked well, however at the end I decided to take this one step further and after pulling the que back, I let it wait around two seconds before quickly snapping the que into the ball. I thought this turned out really well and was a good development of the previous anticipation.
