The unthinkable (poem below)

These are frightening times for my nation as political life becomes toxic and millions embrace hideous lies and propaganda, tilting the country away from democracy toward authoritarian rule laced with racism and hatred. This year's elections are crucially important, but it looks like the forces of repression and deception are likely to regain control of Congress and send us down a path of destruction.

 

We face a political party, many of whose members have endorsed insurrection as a legitimate political activity along with an ex president who attempted to remain in power against the will of the American people.

 

The Unthinkable

 

Things we thought

Before

Unthinkable

Have become

Now

Quite sadly

Thinkable

Quite sadly

Possible

But we hope

Still

Unlikely

Remote

And unbelievable
