The ruins of Polonnaruwa in northern Sri Lanka were a real surprise for me. These ruins ended up far and away exceeding my expectations with stunningly well preserved temples, shrines and carvings galore. This is my favourite image from my trip – the composition really caught my eye, I think it’s the light tones of the buddha set against the dark brick work which stood out for me.
