The next stop
JR Kyoto station, Kyoto
Sat at home before my trip, I had sketched out a plan to leave Tokyo first thing in the morning and spend the day in Nagoya en route to Kyoto, but faced with that in practice the day felt very busy, and no fun. I quickly threw that idea out the window (going to Yoyogi park instead) and left Tokyo way later, dropping Nagoya for the moment. I arrived in Kyoto around 8pm. I figured I could do Nagoya as a day-trip from Kyoto or on the return leg to Tokyo, but in the end I just cut it entirely.
I saw Mt. Fuji from the train but wasn't in a great position to take a photo and the light was fading by then anyway. I just thought I'd have another chance on the return journey. I later found out you usually can't see it and I had been really very lucky; indeed, it was behind thick cloud cover when I passed it again.
