In Conversation with.... Christopher Doyle

TIFF Bell Lightbox

For some reasons, I started to pay more attention to Hong Kong cinema recently (I lived there until I was 14, 5 years ago). And when one talks about Hong Kong cinema, one can NOT know Wong Kar Wai's work (Ashes of Time, Fallen Angels, Chungking Express, Happy Together, In the Mood For Love, 2046). And cinematographer Christopher Doyle is such a huge part of WKW's films.

So when I found out he is coming to the TIFF Bell Lightbox for the re-release of Chungking Express, I realized I must attend. Chris was quite a character, very rock and roll (middle fingers, check. sticking his tongue out, check. beer, check! A [music] photographer's dream come true!). But to me, his experiences in both the West and East context was the most fascinating and inspiring. It was great listening to him talking about his artistic vision as well.
