Nantes, Ile Feydeau
This XVIIIth century urban ensemble was initially surrounded by water. The island was integrated to the city center when the Loire was filled in 1930. As can be seen from the picture, the open spaces were entirely redesigned in the early 1990ies for leaving more space for pedestrian. The white public lighting and discrete enhancement of facades magnifies the outstanding classical character of the place.
