House/Purple Finch - male

Not purple but rose red - they fit so well amid the burbundy-red leaves of the Japanese Plum Tree.

We have both Purple Finch (Carpodacus californicus) and so-alike House FInch (Carpodacus mexicanus) and I can never tell them apart.

 

P.S. Knowledgeable Flickr friends have come through with I.D. - definitely a House Finch.
