My Stereo System at Home
This is my two channel sound system. The source is the el cheapo Denon DVD player 1730. Using Nordost Blue Heaven interconnects, the signals go into the low-powered amp Almarro A205A mkII. This small beauty produces merely 4.8 watts/ch. The original Sovtek tubes have been replaced. Now, it uses an Ei 12AX7 for the driver and a couple of Electro Harmonix el84's. These tubes in my opinion make a great combination. This single ended pentode (SEP) amp drives a pair of Audio Note AZ2's through Luminuous Prestige II (low) and Nordost Spellbinder (high) speaker cables (biwired). The AZ2's are placed on the corners, almost touching the walls. Now, finally I find a pair of speakers with efficiency 93db, as advised in SixMoons (Jeff Day) when using A205A. These AZ2's are huge compared to A205A mkII. Don't be fooled by the tiny amp. The amount 4.8 watts/ch is loud enough for those easy to drive AZ2's. All parts are supported by Soundcare footers. This system is in my library, and I listen to almost all kind of music when I work or read a book. BTW, the room is 3m x 7m. The height of the room is sloped to the right. The floor is covered by .5 cm-thick carpet. The rack is local made. Originally it was a 5 level rack, but I cut it into two. Now I have two racks. So, you might ask: "How is the sound?" It rocks, man! The bass is so powerful and tight. When someone says tubed amp does not produce good bass, he or she does not have listened to this simple set up. What a system! Three-piece sound system. Minimalist. Simple, yet delivers! If you like very simple system like I do, you should consider this system.
