Kent's Tents 01-2012

People identifying as "Kent's Tents" come to show their "excitement" at Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister being in Calgary at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce for a breakfast meeting with business people.

A day prior (2012-01-25), Mr. Kent stated that the new position of Environment Canada is to allow the extirpation of caribou in Northern Alberta (and merely try to cull wolves) because there are healthy populations in other parts of Canada. Not acknowledging the legal requirement (see: lawsuit won by Ecojustice) to protect endangered species will allow oil and gas development in Alberta's North to continue unabated.

As part of ongoing Tarsands or Oilsands expansion, Enbridge's Northern Gateway Pipeline is proposed to go from Fort McMurray to Kitimat BC, where oil tankers would ply BC's pristine coast. Thousands of kilometers of coastline and thousands of square kilometers of forest, streams, and mountains are at risk of contamination from oil spills not to mention the impact on First Nations communities who are largely opposed to the pipeline.
