Silence in the Square 3

The two minutes silence has been observed on Armistace Day since the end of the First World War.

At 11 o'clock on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the traffic around Trafalgar Square in London stopped, and as the bells of St Martins in the Field and the chimes of Big Ben sounded we all stood in silence in remembrance of those who were killed or injured in both World Wars and in all conflicts up to the present day.

After the two minutes we were all invited to place poppies in one of the fountains as a gesture of hope for an end to conflict.
