The Cundeez @ Audio Glasgow (49)
Dundee’s European culture capital statues may have gotten a slap in the face by the European Commission, where Audio Glasgow Venue was gifted a roaring night when Dundee’s “Cundee” punk band played at Fire Exits Christmas party gig on December 2nd.
The band along with Paisley’s “Fire Exit” The Zips from Glasgow, Church of Confidence from Germany and Monkish from London and had the audience on their feet throughout the night, while loving every minute of it. So it just goes to show folks, culture is alive and well all over Scotland and the EU for that matter. So the need for verification from others is hardly punk rock in these bands minds who just get on with it and with the next to no funds at that.
So for those of you looking for culture, put on your glad rags and head for your local venues and give all those bands out their the price of a ticket that allows them and others to put on a show that entertains many from all over the EU. After all folks these bands make next to know money and in some cases even loose money while receiving no EU funding let alone get invited to the big fancy EU city of culture doos everyone seems to think makes you happy.
Cultures about getting up aff yir backside and going out enjoying yourself with friend and making new ones into the bargain, while interacting with new cultures from all around the world who have the same interests and passion for music as you do.
After all I shot these photos for free and never seen an EU penny, but I’m richer for having so many good friends. And yes Dundee may have lost out in making around £128 m from the EU while the prospect of creating 16,000 new jobs. But I bet any money bands such as this and photographers like myself wouldn’t have seen a penny of that money and probably found ourselves stuck in low paid soul destroying jobs that have no relation to our real skills and needs, thus a real loss or culture.
So what is culture if its not about the people doing the very things they love in a world that shows them respect, without being forced to chance to suite the needs of others, hence the loss of culture music and friendship.
The EU has done one thing in my option and yes I speak for myself.
When these UK and European punk bands finished up for the nights they left with arms wrapped around one and other in friendship in the hope they’d all meet again one day. Where those in the unelected EU kick the UK right in the nuts and for what? Leaving the party they and the rest of the UK voted democratically choose to leave. That’s hardly the spirit of friendship, if anything an attack on this countries cultural democratic right to choose to leave and we’re seeing more and more of this across the EU. Where its people’s are sick of being told what to do and what they should be giving up, as their culture and traditions are offensive to others visiting their countries.
The people I saw where glad to be in Scotland and thanked their hosts with open arms, where I think those who run the EU must be wearing blinkers and listening to the wrong people instead of the people who make up all these great nations and cultures we all love to visit and admire…
That’s culture..
