fwiw- Immediately following this shot, a photographer came up to me & solved a problem I needed figured out. When shooting beams of colored light- you need to shoot pretty wide open @ f2.8 to 4 & likely bump up your iso. The key is in the open aperture. Doing that would have hurt this shot, but it's good to know. The science of it? No idea, other than light hitting light?
