Snuff Bottles

Really beautiful collection of snuff bottles

Snuff bottles came into vogue during the Manchu, or Ch'ing, dynasty (1644-1912) with the popularity of tobacco smoking. These bottles containing snuff were carried in sleeves. Made of brass, amber, horn, ivory, wood, jade, quartz, porcelain, enamel, glass and other materials, the bottles are among the most delightful of Chinese small art objects. The finest work ceased after the Ch'ing dynasty ended.
