Milky Way Paint Brush

Milky Way over a sedimentary pipe in Kodachrome Basin State Park, Utah. This single exposure was taken with my Canon 5D MkII, using an EF24mm f/1.4L II lens @ f/1.4 • 15 sec • ISO 3200 (this is an early photo with this lens, before I learned to control the coma). Read below for more info about these unique "sand pipe" formations.

Kodachrome Basin is right next to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

My new ebook, Milky Way NightScapes, gives extensive details on how to enhance the landscape foreground. Three other chapters cover planning, scouting, forecasting star/landscape alignment, shooting and post processing.
