Moonrise over Wasatch Mountains, Utah

Moon rising at dusk over the Wasatch Range in Northern Utah. The highest peak you see in this photo is Lone Peak 11,253 feet (3,430 m), and it is part of the Lone Peak Wilderness a 30,088-acre, located only about 18 miles from the heart of downtown Salt Lake City! Today, 85% of Utah's population lives within 15 miles (24 km) of the Wasatch Range, mainly in the valleys just to the west. This concentration is known as the Wasatch Front and has a population of just over 2,000,000 residents. This photo was taken with a 4X telephoto lens (200mm) onto Kodachrome slide film.

Photo Tip: The day before the full moon, the sun sets as the moon is rising -- giving you enough evening ambient light to photograph landscape features.
