Nesting Hummingbird

I found this nesting, mother hummingbird under the eaves of a house. They had attached their nest to a screw hook for a hanging flower pot. They are so tiny! This was taken with a 400mm lens (using an extension tube).

In the enlargement you can see feathers lining the nest and poking up by her head and eye. The feathers are often the soft down feathers from other birds. They also use a lot of fluffy "parachute" type seeds to build and line their nest, like this photo (by Peggy Collins) of a hummer gathering cattail or bullrush fluff.
