Yakushima Island, Kagoshima, Japan

 

Yakushima is a sub-tropical island covered in ancient rainforests and surrounded by coral reefs. Many of the trees are over 3,000 years old and some are said to be even over 7,000 years old.

This island became a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 1993.
