Some mothers pushed their children forward so that we could see their child’s deformity, and other mothers rushing forward to pull their eager children back. The contrast of that with the solemnity of the greeting from our hosts at the hospital, with tables set up like the U.N., speeches of welcome and thanks from both sides, and lots of official ceremony, was quite stark.
