Reclaim Your Data
Reclaim Your Data is a project conducted by NVISION, that deals with customer oriented opportunities from companies' extensive gathering of user data. The aim is to support ecological and ethical goals by making information more transparent.
With an emerging information society, questions about “data rights” are born. In order to participate in commerce and services, it is compulsory to agree to that all of your actions are surveilled, used for analysis and even sold to other companies. By using credit cards, internet and other digital media, a massive amount of information is stored about individuals, giving companies the information advantage. When companies cooperate and share data, the lives of the users become transparent by further analysis. Even though users constitute the origin of this valuable data source, the information is solely used for the benefit of companies. Nevertheless, the data could also provide a valuable information resource for users.
The gathered information is mandatory for companies to handle competition. Since it is likely that this gathering will only become more extensive, a way of dealing with the asymmetric information is to make it more transparent for the user. This information can be of great value for customers. Also, usage and analysis of data for the benefit of customers can provide a new field of differentiation in the competition. By enabling transparent information, companies could enjoy a greater trust and a stronger trademark.
Reclaim Your Data proposes a number of concepts that utilise user related information. Casual visualisation methods are employed to display the information in an immediate and intuitive way. Assuming that all gathered data can be accessed, the project investigate possible uses of different information sources.
