Snow Hoodoos

Snow covered hoodoos of Bryce Canyon after several days of storms. I took a day away from Zion to head to Bryce. We arrived at Bryce during mid-morning. It was significantly colder at Bryce and was covered with significant snow and ice. Perfect I thought for some interesting photos of the Hoodoos covered in snow. Ideally I would have liked to come here for sunrise for the warm sun but had to make do with the best I could. Luckily the lighting wasn’t harsh on all parts of the hoodoos yet.

Our first stop was sunrise point. Instead of taking the grand shots of the entire landscape I pulled out one of my favorite lenses: 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II for some zoomed in shots. This lens is so sharp and amazing and did not disappoint here. I found this patch of hoodoos that still had some warm morning light cast upon them. What I like most about this shot is the varying types of textures. There are tall and short hoodoos mixed with sloping hills that are partially covered with snow. These all combine to make this a very interesting landscape I had never seen before. After careful inspection I realized I even captured two hikers in the center of the photo. I could even make out one of the two hikers using a point and shoot camera taking pictures of the hoodoos.

Definitely an amazing national park and somewhere I need to return to shoot for sunrise and sunset.
