Violet Visions

Every so many years the lupines will bloom simultaneously into a carpet of purple. As for any wildflowers, timing is essential with peak blooms typically lasting only about a week. Leading up to the blooms I made it a point to scout out the conditions to determine when the lupines would peak.

Then it came down to a waiting game hoping for a day with clouds. With the volatile spring this year getting clouds was not much of an issue but getting the right cloud setup for sunrise/sunset light was far more challenging. Knowing the peak bloom is short, I grabbed my first light opportunity to get out here. I was pleasantly surprised to get a pretty good light show as the sky had a decent burn with textured clouds. However, it was the lupines that really shined. At peak freshness, the lupine appeared juicy and each flower stalk was tall and full of petals. I was quite relieved in getting these conditions as spring weather usually brings bluebird skies or overcast conditions, but I managed to get a solid light show right when I needed it.
