Legends of the City

Over the past few years I have made more than a half dozen visits to this spot for the classical view of the San Francisco skyline under the Bay Bridge. An iconic and breathtaking scene it never ceases to amaze with its beauty and the constantly changing skyline. In lieu of recent events at Yerba Buena Island I decided to make another attempt at this shot but to finally get the burning sky that has constantly eluded me.

Having slept through a crazy sunrise Aaron and I did not want to miss another potential light show. With skies looking promising, we departed for San Francisco. Upon arriving at we ran into none other than Jeff and Tung. Despite then vacillating on where to shoot, we all ended up making the trek to the under the Bay Bridge spot. The clouds were already looking amazing and we crossed our finger that they would not depart our frame by sunset. Luckily the clouds moved slowly and the sky ignited into popcorn-like pink and red burn. This evening was by far the best sunset I have gotten at this spot and I can finally put this one to rest.

This shot is a “timelapse” blend of 2 shots: one for the sunset and one for the city lights taken roughly 15 minutes later. Hope you enjoy and may the holiday season commence!
