Overwatch

Over 2 years ago Alan showed me this spot he dubbed “The Cove” which overlooked a giant sea stack with a Big Sur-esque type of view along the San Francisco coastline. Since then I have attempted shooting this spot about a half dozen times but have always returned empty handed with clouds blocking the sunset at the final minute.

All that changed during my spring visit here with fellow photographers Scotty and Jeff. Jeff had predicted a nice sunset as high clouds visited the SF coastline. The tide was nearly perfect and the raging surf provided the drama needed to enliven the scene. Unlike my usual seascapes where I am dodging waves left and right this shoot felt much more relaxed perched up high above.

Just as the sky began burning the setting crescent moon became brighter with the dwindling light. Though it took many tries I can finally put this location to rest.
