Set In Stone
Just after sunset at the Marin Headlands, California, a short distance north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I was dreaming about shooting this spot for at least a month before I went. The late Galen Rowell made some great pictures here, and I was looking forward to seeing it myself. This spot is surrounded by large sharp rocks on 3 sides, so your position is pretty well defined by the environment -- literally, set in stone. As I was waiting for the sun to set, I realized that a lot of great photographers before me must have stood where I was, in that exact same spot, waiting for the perfect light to appear... I hope this photo is worthy of the comparison.
