Ride the Wave
Rancheria Falls, Yosemite National Park.
Made a few weeks ago on a backpacking trip above the Hetch Hetchy area of Yosemite. I was worried there wouldn't be much of a sunset as we hiked out to Rancheria Falls under a clear blue sky. Amazingly right at sunset a Sierra Wave swept west across the park. As the sun descended, rays hitting the front of the wave lighted up the granite with a yellow, orange, then a deep red glow -- unlike any natural light I've seen before. All next to Rancheria Creek thundering with spring runoff.
I was fascinated with the symmetry of the Sierra Wave with the shape of the landscape and the flow of Rancheria Creek. I hope this captures a little bit of what I felt that evening in an amazingly beautiful and underappreciated wilderness in Yosemite.
