CAMDEN ROAD JC.

The British Railways London Midland Region individual function switch signalling panel in Camden Road Junction signal box. Tuesday 4th October 1988

Kentish Town Junction signal box was located by the Up Main line between the bridges over Kentish Town Road (beyond the signal box) and Camden Street in north London having was North London Railway type 3b design fitted with a 45 lever North London Railway Tappet frame which opened in 1896, replacing an earlier signal box located at the far end of the signal box. The signal box was renamed Camden Road Junction on 22nd March 1955 to match the adjacent station which was renamed from Camden Town to Camden Road on 25th September 1950, and to avoid confusion with Kentish Town Junction signal box on the former Midland Railway route north from St. Pancras station. The lever frame was replaced by a British Railways London Midland Region individual function switch panel commissioned on 9th August 1987. The signal box was refurbished with uPVC cladding and windows in the early 2000s and a replacement Tew Engineering Limited SM48 individual function switch panel was commissioned on 29th March 2005. An additional individual function switch panel was commissioned on 30th May 2010 controlling emergency replacement of automatic signals installed between Camden Road East Junction and Dalston. The signal box was scheduled to close on 1st June 2010 but closure was postponed until 1st November 2010. The closure was postponed again and closed at 04:00 on 19th December 2010. The official closure was on 4th January 2011 when signalling was commissioned controlled by the North London Line Central workstation located in Upminster Integrated Electronic Control Centre
